Navigational implications of climate change.
The UN Secretary General has noted that in the last three decades there have been declines in the extent of Arctic sea ice of 8.9 percent in September and 2.5 per cent per decade in March; sea-ice thickness has also continued to decline since the 1950s (report dated 31.8.07 to the UN General Assembly on oceans and the law of the sea).
